Benefits of Violin Lessons: How to Learn in a Fun and Convenient Way

Has the thought of learning violin ever crossed your mind? Although learning an instrument might seem difficult, rest assured that it’s never too late to start. Look no further if you’re looking to engage in violin lessons! At A&M Wilkinson, professional and experienced violin tutors are here to help you hone your violin playing skills. Enjoy learning individually or in groups in the violin lessons we provide for all ages and levels.

How Our Marking Assessment Works

Examinations at grade and diploma levels are available. Candidates are tested in four categories: performance, scales and arpeggios, sight-reading, and auditory testing. Repertoire from lessons and our own arrangements are used for the examination; candidates can choose three works to perform in concerts for both soloists and ensemble members.

Benefits of Learning the Violin

1. In-depth Understanding of Music

At A&M Wilkinson, you’ll get to explore a broad range of musical styles. With the violin being such an incredibly versatile instrument, you can play genres ranging from orchestral to pop, and even metal. As you develop your skills, you can broaden your musical horizons and learn the skills required to adapt to new musical genres.

2. Improved Memory and Focus

Numerous studies on the advantages of playing the violin or other musical instruments have been conducted. According to a recent study from the Institute for Music and the Mind at McMaster University, even one year of musical training can improve memory and attention span.

3. Physical and Mental Health Benefits

Many people today have unhealthy spines and poor posture due to their sedentary lifestyles. Since playing the violin requires excellent posture, standing properly while playing can help one develop a good habit of keeping great posture all the time. In addition, being exposed to high-level musical training has also proven to positively impact sensory motor skills in the long run. Researchers discovered that musicians can generally integrate sensory information from sight, touch, and hearing better than the average person.

Aside from physical health benefits, playing the violin is also a wonderful stress reliever. It can lower levels of sadness, anxiety, and reduce other stress related health concerns. You’ll even expand your social network as you meet more fellow violinists.

Why A&M Wilkinson?

In order to inspire aspiring musicians and actors in realising their full potential in the performing arts, our Directors, Andrew Wilkinson and Margaret E Park, have created an exciting new approach to teaching and performing courses. Our one-year part time Professional & Advanced Professional courses can assist advanced students in achieving their professional goals in a specialised field of choice.

At the Fellowship level, students with recognised diplomas may opt to focus on their studies on a subject of their choice such as recitals, concerts, chamber music, lectures on historical music, etc.
